In 2015, there were over 200,000 NPs in the U.S.  Approximately half of all NPs are prepared as family NPs.  The most recent statistics reported by the American Association of NPs (AANP,  2013) provide an estimate of the distribution of practicing NPs by population foci (see table below).  Over 20,000 newly prepared NPs have entered the NP workforce in the most recent acadmic years, according to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) and the National Organization of NP Faculties (NONPF).  INPE will be adding new statistics regarding NPs over time.
